#BRVCFeature: Power In Pink Founder, Dafina Morris

October is National Breast Cancer Awareness month and with an estimate of 252,710 new invasive cases predicted for women this year, it's important to bring this illness to the forefront and educate each other.

Dafina Morris is taking matters into her own hands with the launch of Power In Pink--a foundation that strives to bring attention to breast cancer and other foundations that support a variety of causes.

We wanted to kick off our #BRVCFeature blog series with Dafina because not only is she finally going after an endeavor she's thought about for a while, but she's also contributing to a larger matter.

Please view her interview below and join her for the 1st Annual Power In Pink Affair Benefit: Fashion Show 2017 this Sunday (10/08) in New York City.

Congrats Dafina!

(BRVC): What industry do you work in day by day?

(DM): I am in the beauty industry.

What is your proudest moment to date?

Giving birth to my son and graduating from college.

Who or what has empowered you?

My mom has empowered me, but also the want to do good and give back pushes me.

What does Power In Pink mean to you?

Power in Pink means the beginning of a new journey. A sense of freedom and to be able to set a goal and accomplish it.

It's also a new way to fundraise and my goal is to bring awareness to certain causes, and to encourage people to support additional foundations that are helping others.

What inspired you and your partners to create this event?

Honestly, it started off as me wanting to be able to give back as a birthday gift to myself, without expecting anything in return. From there, my friend asked why I didn't started my own foundation and from that moment, I was motivated to go for it...eventually Power In Pink was born and the rest is history.

When did you feel this event was necessary?

It’s always been a goal of mine to throw my own fashion show and to give upcoming designers a platform to show their work and not have to worry about the back-end logistics... we've helped them feel confident that they are a part of a great, easy-going show.

What should attendees expect to take place at the event?

Great fashion and a good time!

What can attendees expect to take away from the event?

More knowledge about breast cancer and the importance of checking yourself... and understanding that breast cancer is no longer an old person sickness. It's common and can happen to anyone.

What advice do you have for women who may feel discouraged to rise above their trials and tribulations and go after their goals?

Just go for it! There will always be a reason why you shouldn’t do it; there will be hard times but the reward of feeling accomplished will make it all worthwhile.

Where can people stay connected with all of your endeavors?
